

Wild Rose Ch.2Copper came down with a snort and then reared again but not as high. Still, Maria talked. Copper's hooves came crashing down again, but this time he kept all four feet on the ground. He stood there, trembling slightly. For a while Maria didn't move, her eyes fixed on his, her voice calming and reassuring. As he relaxed, she turned her body at a slight angle to his and moved slowly toward him, her eyes looking toward the ground. Kelly held her breath. As Maria reached for Copper's halter, he snorted and lowered his head. Kelly let out a huge sigh of relief. Adam's face was pale. "I can't believe i was so stupid," he said under his breath, pushWild Rose Ch.2


Wild Rose Ch.1As the school bus disappeared into the distance, Kelly White shifted her backpack onto her shoulder and headed up the long drive leading to Wild Rose. On both sides of the dusty path were horses and ponies grazing lazily in the afternoon sunshine, their tails swishing away the clouds of flies that buzzed around them. Kelly smiled. It was a sight that always made her glad to be home. She hurried on up the curving drive toward the weather-boarded house and brick stable block with its whitewashed doors. As she drew near, a stable door opened and Adam, Wild Rose's seventeen-year-old stable hand, came out leading Copper, a chestnut geldWild Rose Ch.1
